Eidson's History
In 1943, George Eidson, Sr. saw a niche to be filled in the Central Florida community. The area needed a full-service, professional agency to provide both business and personal insurance and function as a trustworthy liaison between the client and the insurance company.
From the beginning, Eidson Insurance has been a part of our growing city. The agency was originally located at 608 N. Orange Avenue next to the Orange Court Hotel. Across the street was Harley Wadsworth’s Used Car Lot and several residences. The Orlando Steam Laundry was around the corner. From its location on Orange Avenue, the Agency watched the Orlando Sentinel’s building go up.
By the late 1950’s, Ted Eidson and Ann Eidson had joined their father in the business. The Agency moved to what was then known as the Rutland Building on the corner of Orange and Washington. Its next door neighbor on the 4th floor was Florida Ranch Lands which was quietly putting together the property that would become Disney World. From this location, the Agency watched the “Copper Whopper” rise high above its offices.
In 1984, Eidson Insurance bought the former Pounds Dance Studio at 2807 Edgewater Drive in College Park. At this location it is the Agency that continues to grow, having made two expansions to the office space. It has also seen the revival of the College Park merchant and business district. George’s grandchildren Laura Eidson Cosgrove, Will Eidson and Mary Eidson Holler have joined the agency to continue the tradition of professional insurance services for both businesses and individuals. At this central location, the Agency can service it clients throughout Central Florida.
Today, the Agency continues to be on the leading edge of insurance services. Although we have a varied client base, we have identified some key industries where we excel, including medical malpractice, healthcare facilities, lawyers, churches and schools, service contractors, non-profits and restaurants.
