Florida Approves Change in Workers Compensation Mod Formula

July 27, 2012

An important component of your workers’ compensation rate is your experience modification factor (“experience mod”).  The State of Florida recently approved a change in the calculation of the formula that was proposed by NCCI, an independent organization that calculates experience mods for the insurance industry.  For details on the change, read the NCCI FAQ.

Keeping your workers compensation claims costs in check is more important than ever.  Because 80% of workplace claims are the result of human error, establishing a safety culture mindset within your organization is one of the best proactive steps you can take to reduce the number of these types of claims.  Doing so will, in turn, reduce your experience mod factor and maximize any potential dividend plan made available to you by your insurer.

There are many low or no cost ways to establish a safety culture mindset within your organization.

To learn how the experience mod change will impact your insurance premiums and how to minimize the impact by creating a safety culture,  Contact John Bruneau, Commercial Insurance Advisor.

Identity Theft: We are all at risk

June 26, 2012

Last fall I shared with you some tips to protect your home from burglary.  Just as important, you should take measures to protect your family from identity theft.  An identity thief does not even need to enter your home.  If you have an email account, enter passwords on the computer or place your trash at the curb, someone has most likely attempted to steal your personal information.

Here are some tips from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to deter would-be thief’s:

  • Protect your social security number
  • Treat trash and mail carefully
  • Be on guard when using the Internet
  • Select intricate passwords
  • Verify sources before sharing information
  • Store information in secure locations
  • Visit the FTC Identity Theft Site
  • Consider identity theft insurance – Call an Eidson Representative Today.  407-849-0333

Wind Mitigation Credits: How to Keep Them

June 21, 2012

In 2007, insurance companies began offering premium credits for homes with features that reduce the risk of wind damage.  To qualify, homeowners needed to submit a standardized inspection form.  That form is due to expire in July, which means you may lose your mitigation credits if the 2012 form is not submitted to your insurance company.

If you have questions about wind mitigation credits on your homeowner policy renewal, contact an Eidson Personal Lines Account Agent to review your options for you.
